Counter intuitiveness

Updated: Apr 1

“22 nd JULY KO INDIA-PAK CRICKET LIVE nahi hai”

This was the front page of today’s newspaper Times of India to promote Moj app along with their promotion with famous personalities which were at the back of this page. This is how in today’s world things sell. So, if someone must promote his new opening clinic he can write “Don’t visit my clinic today”. Someone is promoting his treatment procedures he should write “Don’t ever get the implants done from Dr. X. Educational institutions should advertise for the courses to get students get admitted as “We are not taking admissions to X and Y courses”. What is it that triggers in all of us after hearing such counter-intuitive things? Did you ever give it a thought?

Is it that light moment which gets generated after reading such advertisements when you discuss it with your family members that make you remember such advertisements? Or is it something else which makes you connected to such advertisements even after putting the paper back on the newspaper shelves and racks?

Taking the example of this INDIAN-PAK Cricket match only, it arose all those emotions

attached to the INDIAN-PAK live cricket matches of fifty overs where all the family members sat together for one full day cheering and shouting in front of their TV screens. Pretending to be the best third umpire of that day and judging the decisions of all the people involved in the field.

Asking Tendulkar to start playing offensive just like Sehwag. Indulging into all those

superstitions that mom should not go into the kitchen to prepare food because the moment she leaves for kitchen one Indian player gets out or one Pakistani catch got a miss. The same superstition which we all have noticed in the recent movie “83” where Mann Singh (…..) asks everyone to stand or sit still wherever they are till the time Kapil Dev (Ranveer Singh) was playing. In a fraction of second all these thoughts ran through my mind which I took almost ten minutes to capture on this A4 size paper.

So, would you like to notice now, what is that thing which is being tapped here with such

counter-intuitiveness? Yes, it is EMOTIONS. Every human being in this world, whether it is the one who is selling or the one who is buying all are emotional beings. Point is how much you are aware of your emotions.

I have seen people flooding the market in the times of summer sales, Christmas sales justifying their cheap buying of things, but if you look carefully, how much you spend in that sale, how much you needed that stuff, and how much you allow yourself to be in that madness for hours. Here comes the question whether you want yourself to be emotionally intelligent or an emotional fool.

Getting aware of your own emotions is the first step of being emotionally intelligent. After getting aware what would you like to do with them is the second, which is nothing but the self-management. Emotional intelligence is something which is always seen as a charisma of an individual. It is always thought a kind of attribute which either an individual has it or not. It is never thought of something which can be acquired in life, or which can be enhanced. But what if you are told that unlike IQ which almost remains fix for an individual, emotional intelligence is something which can be taught and enhanced at any stage of your life. Till now we have always measured success in terms of our pursuit of knowledge, memory, ability to retain things. Where we are always being taught to earn a livelihood. But had we ever been told how to live a life, which is happy and fulfilling? Emotional intelligence is something which occupies 58% share

towards attaining your success, building relationships with your own self, with your colleagues at workplace and promoting you to lead a fulfilling life. Still our free will gives us choice either to feel stuck or to evolve in life.

So, today I CHOOSE to be counter-intuitive with my words….

Feel stuck

and

Don’t explore your

Emotional Intelligence
